National Public Works Week at the Market

National Public Works Week is observed each year during the third full week of May. This year, Hillsboro Public Works will celebrate this event on May 19 during the hours of 8-1:30pm in conjunction with the Saturday Farmers Market with an equipment display in the Civic Center Plaza. Through NPWW and other efforts, APWA seeks to raise the public’s awareness of public works issues and to increase confidence in public works employees who are dedicated to improving the quality of life for present and future generations.  The slogan for this year’s NPWW is “Creating a Lasting Impression.”

Celebrating a tradition in Hillsboro for 30 years, the Hillsboro farmers’ markets are seasonal outdoor events that support the local farming and small business community. Each market features fresh local produce and specialty foods, garden products, arts and crafts, live music and educational information. Some of the great things at the markets are:
  • Fresh, locally grown produce and flowers
  • Arts and crafts
  • Prepared hot food and processed goods such as jams, jellies, bakery goods, nuts, etc.
  • Chef  demonstrations (Orenco and Tanasbourne)
  • Music by local artists
  • Ask the Experts – Master Gardeners and Master Preservers
  • Activities for Children – Market Sprouts Club and Kids’ Days
  • Information for the 2012  ”Dinner on the Farm”
  •  SNAP and WIC token and token match program

The Saturday Market takes place in Historic Downtown Hillsboro, the Sunday Market takes place at Orenco Station, the Tanasbourne market takes place at Whole Foods and the Thursday Market takes place at the Tuality Hospital Campus. Come join us for some great outdoor family time in your community!
