The Hillsboro Tuesday Marketplace brings three exciting special events to Downtown Hillsboro as part of the 2007 season lineup!

Yesterfest - June 26th

Meet me at the Tuesday Marketplace for an evening that takes us all back to the good old days of friendly community-wide gatherings! This evening will be wonderful fun for the whole family, complete with a welcome from the Mayor, red & white checkered table cloths, hay bales for benches, bluegrass music, strawberry shortcake, barbershop singers, nostalgic cars, and fun activities presented by Hillsboro Parks & Recreation including sack races, egg in spoon races, hula hoop contest, three-legged races, hopscotch, water balloon and bean bag tosses, and a pie-eating contest. Dogs on Parade - July 17th

Bring your pooch to the Marketplace and participate in the second annual "Dogs on Parade." People and their pooches (friendly dogs only, please) should congregate at the Hillsboro Civic Center parking lot's Washington Street entrance, between 1st and 2nd Avenues.

Parade starts at 7 p.m. (Dogs and owners assemble at 6:45 p.m. near the Hillsboro Civic Center Plaza) The parade route starts near the plaza under the covered parking. South around the Civic Center building and east to 2nd Avenue. North on 2nd to Lincoln and then southwest diagonally through the County Courthouse grounds back to the plaza.

Contests for owners and dogs start at 7:30 p.m in the plaza area. Enter and win prizes for Best Costume, Best Hot Dog Impersonator, Biggest Dog and Dog/Owner Look-Alike! Prizes provided by PetSmart. Participants are reminded to respect Hillsboro's leash and poop-scoop laws. $1 donation entrance fee, with all proceeds benefiting the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter.

Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest - August 14th

The Civic Center Plaza will be transformed into a public art gallery for just one night as contestants render their own masterpieces on the pavement in chalk.

Registration will be open until August 1, 2007, or 50 entries are received (whichever comes first) Gift Certificates of $25, $50 and $100 will be awarded in each category and may be redeemed for goods or services from participating downtown retailers (not redeemable for cash.)

The categories will be; Children: ages 5-10; Junior: ages 11-14; Senior: ages 15-18; Adult; ages 18 and up and Professional; for artists who've shown or sold work. Contestants will be allocated spaces approximately 5 feet wide by 5 feet high in which to draw. Chalk will be provided (no outside materials will be allowed)

Drawing will start at 5:00 p.m. and run until 7:00 p.m. (Drawing must be finished by 7:00 p.m.) Judging will then take place between 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m with prizes awarded at 8:00 p.m.

Airplane Building & Flying - August 21st

Hillsboro Parks & Recreation’s TRY (Team of Recreational Youth) and Outpost (free summer kids lunch & activities) programs will put on a special paper airplane building & flying competition at the Hillsboro Tuesday Marketplace. Come on by the Civic Center Plaza between 6 and 7:30 pm and try your hand at building a great flier! There will be fun prizes. A suggested donation of $1 per person will go towards TRY and the Outpost, and each person will get to build their airplane and fly it into the plaza. Click here for ideas :)
